Keeping track of your finances can be a full-time job, but thanks to some of the financial apps in today’s post, it doesn’t have to be. We show you how to manage everything from personal budgets to investments, all from your favorite mobile device.
Gone are the days of managing your finances with a checkbook and a pen. Today, you can do the majority of your banking and financial management right from your mobile phone or tablet. Need to deposit a check? No sweat, simply take a snapshot with your phone and upload it to your favorite banking account. Need to transfer or wire money? There’s an app for that too.
Even menial tasks such as tracking or creating a budget and saving your receipts – items once relegated to heavy filing cabinets and paper-cut inducing file folders – can be handled with relative ease thanks to a great line of financial apps. We list a few of these in the following paragraphs.
If you travel a lot for business or are a small business owner, Expensify is a great mobile app that will help you keep track of all of your expenses. The simple application lets you import all credit or debit card transactions, capture mileage and time data, and even lets you take a snapshot of your receipt and store them by category.
Expensify is a great financial mobile app that will have your accountant or CPA firm singing your praises when the tax man comes knocking!
Mint is probably one of the most popular financial apps available today – and with good reason. Compatible with all of the major mobile devices, Mint is a powerful financial tool that lets you access all of your accounts in one place. Store bank accounts, credit cards, and investment information all in one central location.
In addition to being able to view all of your accounts, you can monitor when bills are due, set budgets, and receive alerts based on a variety of criteria. There is, however, a caveat with apps such as Mint – since you must share your financial institutions login information (username and passwords) with a third-party application, you may be voiding any cardholder agreements and security guarantees you have in place.
HomeBudget is not a free app like the other pieces of mobile software on our list. At a cost of $4.99 for iOS and $5.99 for Android devices, you may want to try the free version prior to shelling out a few dollars. That being said, HomeBudget is a powerful financial mobile app that tracks your expenses, bills, budgets, accounts, and income all in one spot. It is a great app for freelancers or contractors, as it lets you enter multiple payees and organize them by date or category.
In addition, HomeBudget has a great search feature that can help you locate all manner of transactions, including purchases or checks that you wrote/received.
About Mobile Financial Apps
As a final caveat, always be aware that using any financial application – whether it be on your mobile phone, tablet, or computer – comes with certain inherent risks. Always be sure that you use a strong password and that you log out of any application after you are finished using it. In addition, never share you personal information with others, as they may be able to use it to access your important financial data.
In the event that you lose your phone or it is stolen, be sure to contact all relevant financial institutions and change your login information ASAP.
